Compensation magnet systems operate on the principle of field displacement. When no current is flowing, the system’s magnetic attractive force (retaining force) is active. As soon as current is applied to the magnet system, the magnetic field generated by the coil current compensates for the field of the permanent magnet. To reliably ensure this field cancellation while current is flowing, a constant current that is regulated independently of temperature is required. This ensures that the heating of the coil has no effect on the system’s performance
The origin of this patented hybrid magnetic system is based on the compensation magnetic system. When de-energized, a permanent magnet provides a continuous holding force that can be overridden or compensated by energizing an additional coil. However, these systems are limited to a maximum duty cycle of 50%. For some applications, however, a higher duty cycle is required. For this reason, NEUHÄUSER has developed and adapted the new hybrid magnet system—which has already been used in numerous applications—to meet these requirements. By using a second coil, the magnet system can now operate at a 100% duty cycle. In addition, activating the second coil makes it possible to adjust the magnetic holding force—either to reduce or increase it—depending on the duty cycle and sheet thickness. This increases flexibility for the user and significantly expands the system’s range of applications.
